Practical Details: The Village

Castelnau de Montmiral is a small village with several shops: a baker, a patisserie, a pharmacy (which also sells soaps and perfumes made from locally gathered herbs and carries English newspapers) and an epicerie (delicatessen).
There is a new general store about 100 meters outside the village walls.
The village also has a doctor's surgery, a post office and a hairdresser.
There are two restaurants in the hotels on Place des Arcades: Les Arcades and Brasserie Hotel des Consuls. There are more restaurants a few kms away in the village of Puycelci, as well as in Cordes and Gaillac.
Markets: Castelnau has a market every Tuesday morning, with fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, cheese and meat. There is a much larger market in Gaillac on Fridays, Cordes on Saturdays and one in St. Antonin Noble Val on Sunday morning.

Getting to Castelnau

Castelnau is in the Tarn region of southwest France. It is a 45 minute drive from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS), a 7-hour drive from Paris and a 10-hour drive from Calais. There also are high speed (TGV) trains to Toulouse with links to the nearest large town, Gaillac (about 15 kms away).
In addition to flying into Toulouse, Barcelona is another option. It is about 260 miles from Castelnau, or a 5-6 hour drive.
From Toulouse Airport:
Exit the airport following the signs for the freeway ("peripherique"). Head south, passing signs for Montpelier & Barcelona, and take the A68 towards Albi/Castres. From the A68 take the Gaillac exit and drive through the town center following the "Toutes Directions" signs, crossing the railroad tracks and then turning onto D964. Follow this for 10-15 minutes until you reach Castelnau de Montmiral. Drive up the hill into the village, bear right to the small parking area at the end of the road.
